Behind the Scenes Tour of Calder Gardens

On January 8, Ballinger’s Paul Arougheti and Fay O’Connor led a tour of Calder Gardens for members of AIA Philadelphia. The new art institution, dedicated to the work of influential artist Alexander Calder (1898–1976), opened to critical acclaim in September 2025 and has quickly become a celebrated addition to Philadelphia’s cultural landscape.
As Executive Architect and Structural Engineer, Ballinger collaborated closely with Swiss Design Architect Herzog & de Meuron to bring the technically intricate project to life. During the tour, Paul and Fay highlighted key design features, including the building’s carefully choreographed sequence of spaces.
